Director of Ag Honors Food Animal Veterinarian during Governor's Conference on Agriculture

Dr. G.D. Windom received the Missouri Food Animal Veterinarian Award

(JEFFERSON CITY, Mo.) – G.D. Windom, DVM, received high honors during the 45th Missouri Governor's Conference on Agriculture, hosted by Gov. Jay Nixon and the Missouri Department of Agriculture.  During the awards banquet Saturday evening, Director of Agriculture Richard Fordyce recognized him with the Missouri Food Animal Veterinarian award in front of hundreds of Missouri producers and agribusiness leaders.

“When it comes to the success or failure of a Missouri livestock producer, our veterinarians play a huge role,” said Director Fordyce. “We depend upon the expertise of doctors who are a resource during some of our most challenging moments, those men and women who are there at a moment’s notice to help with a sick animal.”

For nearly 50 years, Dr. Windom has consistently provided the highest level of veterinary service to producers in Bethany, Mo. He has introduced farmers to advancements in animal health, providing advice that results in the highest quality livestock. Through Dr. Windom’s civic-minded attitude and calming presence, he acts as a mentor to many.

Dr. Windom served in the United States Army, and then enrolled in the Iowa State Veterinary School. After graduating, he moved to Bethany, Mo., where he still lives with his wife, JoAnn.

Missouri’s Food Animal Veterinarian was recognized alongside Legacy Awards in Beef, Soybean, Corn, Pork, Poultry, Forestry, Dairy, Rice and Cotton, the Missouri Farm Innovation Award, the Missouri Agriculture Environmental Steward Award and the Missouri Agriculture Education Award at the 2014 Missouri’ Governor’s Conference on Agriculture closing banquet.

The conference, which took place at the Lake of the Ozarks, concluded Saturday evening with a special performance by country music band Sawyer Brown. The three-day event included nationally-recognized speakers, in-depth discussions about current issues and an agriculture tradeshow. Special events during the conference included the Taste of AgriMissouri reception and the Friday evening benefit auction supporting programs for youth and young professionals in agriculture.
